BJP Welcomes Former TMC MP Koel Malik Amid Calls for Uniform Civil Code in West Bengal

Kolkata, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The political landscape in West Bengal has shifted significantly with the recent addition of former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Koel Malik to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This transition, which took place on Monday, has been hailed by BJP leaders as a victory for the party’s ideology and a reflection of the rapidly changing political dynamics in the state.

BJP leader Rupa Ganguly expressed her happiness over Malik’s decision, recalling their longstanding relationship. “Koel was well-liked even when she was new to politics. I had no objections when she became a TMC MP, as I believed she had good intentions. Now, after leaving the TMC, she is ready to take on a role in the Rajya Sabha with the BJP. I am thrilled,” she stated.

Ganguly emphasized that political differences never hindered their bond. She described Malik as an intelligent and beloved individual who will contribute positively in the Rajya Sabha. “She feels like a daughter to me,” Ganguly added.

The BJP leader also noted that many in West Bengal secretly support Prime Minister Modi and his ideology but may not voice their opinions publicly. She stressed the necessity of implementing laws like the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), asserting that the BJP would not push for legislation just for the sake of passing bills.

BJP’s Ritesh Tiwari echoed these sentiments, asserting that Malik’s inclusion strengthens the party’s position in the Rajya Sabha. He remarked on the diminishing presence of TMC in the upper house, stating that many former TMC members have already departed, leaving only a handful behind.

Tiwari further questioned the stability of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee‘s leadership within her party. He suggested that the current TMC structure is fragile, with only a few loyalists remaining.

On the topic of the UCC, Tiwari expressed that no responsible government would allow the tragic outcomes of women being found in suitcases or along riverbanks. He stated that if the Chief Minister proposes a law to prevent such occurrences, it deserves support.

Tiwari’s remarks highlight the BJP’s commitment to addressing social issues while navigating the complex political terrain of West Bengal.
