Guwahati, May 4: The election results for the Dholai Assembly seat in Assam have been announced. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a remarkable victory.
BJP candidate Amiya Kanti Das defeated Congress candidate Dhruvjyoti Purkayastha by a staggering margin of 44,462 votes. Das received 100,634 votes, while Purkayastha garnered 56,172 votes.
Dholai is a large village located in the Narsinghpur tehsil of Cachar district in Assam. This seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes and is one of seven segments in the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency.
Established in 1967, the Dholai seat has witnessed 13 assembly elections to date, including by-elections in 1970 and 2024. The BJP first won this seat in 1991 and has since established it as a stronghold.
The BJP has claimed victory in Dholai six times, while the Congress has won it five times. In the initial two elections (1967 and the 1970 by-election), the Nationalist People’s Congress and an independent candidate each secured a win once.
For the 2026 assembly elections, the final voter list for Dholai recorded 196,571 voters, an increase from 192,938 in 2024.
Dholai is located approximately 25-30 kilometers from the district headquarters in Silchar. Notably, there is no railway station within a 30-kilometer radius of Dholai, with the nearest station being Silchar Railway Station, about 35 kilometers away.
