New Delhi, March 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a strong attack on the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government following the horrific rape and murder of a minor girl in the Bishnugarh area of Hazaribagh district.
During a press conference in Delhi, BJP Jharkhand President and MP Aditya Sahu announced that if the culprits are not arrested within the next two days, the party will observe a statewide shutdown on April 3. The BJP is referring to this incident as the ‘Hazaribagh Nirbhaya case.’
One day prior to the shutdown, Sahu stated that BJP workers will hold torch rallies in all districts and block headquarters across Jharkhand on April 2 as part of their protest.
Sahu accused the state government of complete breakdown of law and order, claiming that a parallel system operated by criminals is currently in place under the existing administration.
Referring to the Bishnugarh incident, he described it as an ‘extremely rare’ crime and criticized the Chief Minister for remaining silent even days after the incident occurred.
He emphasized that the brutality of this crime reflects the peak of criminality. Despite six days passing, the Chief Minister has yet to utter a word, showcasing the government’s insensitivity.
Earlier in the day, the BJP, along with local residents, called for a ‘Hazaribagh shutdown’ to protest the incident. Demonstrators took to the streets in various areas, including Hazaribagh city and the Bishnugarh block headquarters, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and stringent action.
Hundreds of people, including Hazaribagh MP Manish Jaiswal, Barhi MLA Manoj Kumar Yadav, and district BJP President Vivekanand Singh, marched through the streets, chanting slogans and shutting down markets.
Shops remained closed in several areas, including the Bishnugarh police station area, Jumra Market, and Seven Mile, disrupting daily life.
During the press conference, Sahu welcomed the Jharkhand High Court’s decision to take suo motu cognizance of the case and criticized comments made by the state’s finance minister and some Congress leaders, labeling them as insensitive.
He further alleged that instead of ensuring swift justice, the government is attempting to placate the victim’s family by delaying compensation announcements. Reiterating the BJP’s support for the victim’s family, Sahu demanded the immediate identification of the culprits and severe punishment.
