BJP Aims for Government Change in West Bengal: Samik Bhattacharya

Kolkata, March 16: In West Bengal, opposition parties have called for a government change, emphasizing the need for free, fair, and peaceful assembly elections.

BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya welcomed the Election Commission’s decision to conduct the West Bengal assembly elections in two phases.

Speaking to reporters, Bhattacharya stated, “We welcome the two-phase elections in West Bengal. Other states hold elections without reports of violence or deaths. Only in West Bengal are TMC workers targeting those who vote for the opposition. Violence is escalating here, and democracy is being crushed. We want the people of Bengal to change this situation. A government change is the need of the hour.”

He expressed confidence that the BJP would form the government in West Bengal on the counting day, May 4.

Bhattacharya added that there is no need to pay attention to what the ruling party is saying. “People are tired of TMC’s divisive and hate-filled politics. We will put an end to it. The TMC will face the consequences of its misdeeds in these assembly elections.”

Meanwhile, the CPI(M) has stated that the entire voter list should have been published before the election notification was issued.

CPI(M) state secretary Mohammad Salim remarked that declaring a large number of people as ‘D-voters’ is legally invalid. “A person is either a voter or not. Initially, a mapping process was conducted. Later, those who successfully established their identity during that process had their names removed or were left in limbo for various reasons. Both the central and state governments have failed in this matter. This proves that the offices of BDO, SDO, and DM have merely turned into political puppets. BLOs and COs are also struggling with indecision.”
