Bhagalpur, May 11: The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, launched the Swachh Survekshan Gramin 2025 last year. This initiative aims to assess and strengthen sustainable clean water security and sanitation models while determining the status of rural India based on sanitation progress.
The Swachh Survekshan Gramin 2025 includes 21,000 villages across 761 districts in 34 states and union territories. Its goal is to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the ground realities of rural sanitation, with a particular focus on maintaining the outcomes of Open Defecation Free Plus (ODF Plus) model villages under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G). A national ranking of all states, union territories, and districts in India was provided based on established quantitative and qualitative sanitation parameters.
Through the Swachh Survekshan Gramin 2025, the progress of SBM-G was assessed via village evaluations. This involved surveying households and public spaces to evaluate their status against various sanitation parameters, including Plastic Waste Management Units (PWMUs), Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) plants, Gobardhan plant efficiency, and citizen feedback.
The survey results were announced after dividing rural India into seven zones. In the eastern zone, comprising four states—Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand—Bhagalpur district secured the top position among 115 districts.
Pradeep Singh, the Deputy Development Commissioner of Bhagalpur, expressed his delight, stating that Bhagalpur outperformed 114 districts in the eastern zone. This achievement is a matter of pride for the residents of Bhagalpur. Securing the top position in India’s largest sanitation survey boosts the morale of the officials and staff involved, inspiring them to pursue future projects with renewed energy and determination.
