Bengal Elections: Second Supplementary List for Judicial Adjudication Released

Kolkata, March 28: The second supplementary list related to judicial adjudication cases in West Bengal was released late Friday night, around 11:30 PM.

This list is available on the official website of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal.

However, detailed statistics regarding this second supplementary list—such as the total number of cases resolved and how many names were deemed eligible for removal—have not yet been disclosed. The Election Commission has also not provided any official figures to the media.

According to sources from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, out of over 6 million cases sent for judicial adjudication, approximately 3.7 million names have been approved so far. However, information on how many of these names were found eligible for removal is not available.

Individuals whose names will be removed from the voter list during this process will have the option to appeal to one of the 19 appellate tribunals established for this purpose. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already announced that her party, the Trinamool Congress, will provide legal assistance to these individuals and arrange for lawyers.

Previously, the first supplementary list was released around midnight on March 23.

It is noteworthy that the final voter list for West Bengal was published on February 28, separating 6 million cases for judicial adjudication. At that time, it was decided that supplementary lists would be issued based on the progress of the adjudication process.

Before the notification for special intensive revision was issued last November, the total number of voters in the state was 76,637,529. The draft voter list published in December had 5,820,899 names removed, while the final list released on February 28 saw this number rise to 6,366,952.

Following the release of the first supplementary list, this number reportedly increased to nearly 7.7 million.
