Bangladesh Reinforces ODI Squad with Liton, Rana, and Islam Ahead of Pakistan Series

Mumbai, March 5: Bangladesh has announced the return of Liton Das, fast bowler Nahid Rana, and Shoriful Islam to its ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Pakistan, starting March 11 in Mirpur.

Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain confirmed that the team selection aims to strengthen the middle order, as several players have struggled to secure their positions.

Ashraf stated, “We have given opportunities to various players in the middle order, but unfortunately, some have not performed satisfactorily to cement their spots. Keeping this in mind, Afif Hossain has been recalled. He has always been part of our plans and brings valuable experience, currently in good form. Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan remains in the squad, providing him another chance to prove his capabilities.”

Liton has been in poor form in ODI cricket, failing to reach double digits in his last eight innings since December 2023. However, selectors are hopeful that his experience will be beneficial.

Ashraf added, “Although Liton Das hasn’t delivered his best in recent ODIs, you cannot overlook nearly 100 international matches of experience in this format. He is working with coaches on his game, and we believe he will soon perform at his best. We see him as an option to strengthen the middle order. Meanwhile, Soumya Sarkar is in excellent form at the international level.”

Bangladesh will be without two fast bowlers for this series. Hasan Mahmud is recovering from a right tennis elbow injury, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib is dealing with back pain. Both are expected to return to fitness by the end of March.

Bangladesh’s ODI squad includes: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (captain), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hasan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Liton Das, Afif Hossain, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Nahid Rana.
