New Delhi, March 1: In today’s fast-paced world, we often neglect our daily routines, leading to various health issues. Ayurveda teaches us that living in harmony with nature can keep both our bodies healthy and our minds peaceful.
The first and most crucial habit is to wake up early, especially before sunrise. The atmosphere during this time is calm and fresh, allowing for a clear mind and a positive start to the day. Drinking half to one liter of lukewarm water immediately after waking is highly beneficial. It helps cleanse the stomach and flush out toxins from the body.
Following this, personal hygiene is essential. Using neem or babul twigs or a regular toothbrush to clean the teeth, along with tongue scraping and rinsing, is vital for oral health. Ayurveda also recommends oil pulling, which strengthens teeth and gums. Additionally, putting a couple of drops of oil or ghee in the nostrils and rinsing the eyes with cold water is considered beneficial.
Regular body massage (Abhyanga) should be part of your routine, either daily or several times a week. A gentle massage with mustard, sesame, or coconut oil improves blood circulation, enhances skin glow, and alleviates fatigue. Massaging the head and feet promotes better sleep and reduces stress. Afterward, light exercise, yoga, or pranayama should be practiced. Aim for just enough exercise to break a light sweat without overexerting yourself.
For bathing, it is recommended to use water at room temperature for the head and slightly warm water for the body. Bathing refreshes the body and dispels laziness.
When it comes to food, Ayurveda emphasizes balance. Opt for fresh, light, and easily digestible meals. Minimize fried and heavy foods. Eating on time and chewing thoroughly is crucial for digestion. Have a light meal in the evening and avoid sleeping immediately after eating.
Good sleep is as important as a nutritious diet. Adults should aim for six to eight hours of sleep, while children need eight to ten hours. Washing hands and feet before bed, massaging the feet with warm oil, and listening to soft music or meditating can be very beneficial for a restful night.
