Australia Secures T20 Series Win Against West Indies with 17-Run Victory

Kingston, March 22: The Australia women’s cricket team has taken a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 series against the West Indies. In the second match held at Arnos Vale Stadium on Sunday, Australia triumphed over the West Indies by 17 runs.

Winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first, scoring 164 runs for the loss of five wickets. Ellyse Perry led the charge with a top score of 42 runs off 28 balls, including six boundaries. Opening batswoman Georgia Wareham contributed 39 runs from 23 balls, hitting six fours and one six. Phoebe Litchfield also made a valuable contribution with 35 runs off 29 balls, while Beth Mooney added 17 runs.

For the West Indies, Deandra Dottin, Jahzara Claxton, Hayley Matthews, Karishma Ramharack, and Afy Fletcher each took one wicket.

Chasing a target of 165 runs, the West Indies had a shaky start, losing their first wicket, opener Kiana Joseph, for just 11 runs at a score of 13. Captain Matthews and batter Stephanie Taylor formed a solid partnership, adding 77 runs for the second wicket. At this point, it seemed the West Indies could secure a win. However, once this partnership was broken, the West Indies faced a series of setbacks, causing their run rate to stall. Ultimately, they managed only 147 runs for four wickets in 20 overs, falling short by 17 runs.

Matthews scored 56 runs off 41 balls, hitting three sixes and seven fours. Taylor contributed 22 runs, while Dottin remained not out at 39 runs, hitting two sixes and two fours, but could not lead her team to victory.

Alana King took two wickets for Australia, and Georgia Wareham claimed one. Alana King was named Player of the Match.
