Assam Floods: Government Intensifies Rescue Efforts Amid Rising Waters

Guwahati, July 20: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Monday that the state government is closely monitoring the flood situation and is committed to ensuring that relief and rescue operations reach affected individuals without delay.
The Chief Minister reported that rescue operations are in full swing in the flood-affected districts. A team of ministers is overseeing these efforts, closely observing ground conditions, and coordinating relief activities with local administration.
CM Sarma posted on the social media platform X, “We are committed to rapidly delivering all relief measures to those affected by the floods. ‘Team Assam’ is closely monitoring the situation on the ground.”
Senior Minister Keshav Mahanta visited the flood-affected districts of Jorhat and Sivasagar on Monday to assess the situation and review ongoing rescue and relief operations.
Mahanta inspected flood-hit areas in Teok, evaluated current conditions, and interacted with residents affected by the floods. He also reviewed the progress of relief efforts being carried out by the district administration and disaster response agencies.
Meanwhile, Minister Sushant Borgohain visited flood-affected areas in the Bokota-Lakowa region of the Demo Assembly constituency, where rising river waters have submerged several villages, including Lonporia and its surroundings.
Borgohain stated that the district administration has initiated rescue operations to relocate affected residents to safer locations. Rescue efforts will continue in other submerged villages, and all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety and welfare of affected families.
The state government has deployed ministers in various flood-affected districts to oversee rescue operations, coordinate with local administration, and ensure timely distribution of relief materials.
