Assam Chief Minister Visits Flood-Affected Areas, Orders Repairs of Damaged Embankments

Guwahati, August 8: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-affected areas in the Darang district on Saturday. He assessed the situation after the embankments of the Noa and Kulsi rivers broke, leading to water inundation in several villages.

During his visit to the Mangaldai assembly constituency, Sarma inspected the damage in the villages of Bengabara and Naharbari. He reviewed the ongoing relief and restoration efforts by the district administration.

In Bengabara, the Chief Minister examined a section of the broken embankment along the Noa River and evaluated the repair work in progress. The damage occurred a few days ago, causing floodwaters to enter multiple villages and disrupt the lives of residents.

Sarma instructed officials to expedite the restoration work and emphasized that the government would implement special measures to rebuild the damaged embankments more robustly to mitigate future risks.

He also visited relief camps set up at the under-construction Anganwadi center and the Autala Higher Secondary School in Bengabara. There, he interacted with flood-affected individuals, inquiring about their well-being, food, healthcare, and other essential needs.

The Chief Minister reassured displaced families that the government would provide all necessary assistance as per established relief protocols as soon as possible.

Later, he traveled to Naharbari, where he inspected the broken embankment along the Kulsi River and assessed the flood damage.

Sarma noted that the recent floods have severely impacted the local population, particularly due to the breaches in river embankments. He stressed the need for sustainable restoration measures rather than temporary fixes.

The Chief Minister stated that the state government would take special steps to strengthen and reconstruct the broken embankments, ensuring that relief and rehabilitation efforts reach all eligible affected families without delay.

This visit comes at a time when Assam is grappling with flood conditions, and the state administration is intensifying relief, rehabilitation, and restoration efforts in the affected areas.
