Glasgow, July 31: India has secured another gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Asmita Day clinched the gold in judo, triumphing in the women’s 48 kg final against Canada’s Heidi Quach. This victory marks a historic achievement, as it is India’s first gold medal in judo in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
In a thrilling and closely contested match, Day defeated Quach with a score of 2-1. Maintaining her composure in the final stages, she achieved her most significant win of the Commonwealth Games campaign. The Indian judoka showcased exceptional strategic skills and defensive discipline, highlighting India’s growing prominence in the sport on a global scale.
India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated Asmita Day on her remarkable success. He expressed his joy on X, stating, “Asmita Day’s outstanding effort is commendable. India is expected to secure two more gold medals in judo. Alongside Asmita, Harsh and Yamini have also reached the finals in their respective categories. Harsh Singh has advanced to the final of the men’s 60 kg event after defeating Australia’s Pedro Carlos Antun Neto in the semifinals. He will face Australian Joshua Katz in the final.
Yamini Maurya secured her spot in the final of the women’s 57 kg category by defeating South Africa’s Done Braeytenbach with an ippon, although it required significant effort. In the final, Yamini will compete against England’s Aselia Toprak.
