
Itanagar, April 17: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu stated on Thursday that the state has significantly improved its sports performance over the past decade. This includes achieving the fifth position nationally and emerging as a top performer in the Northeast during the ‘Khelo India Tribal Games.’
While inaugurating three major infrastructure facilities at the Der Natung Government College in Itanagar, the Chief Minister encouraged students to actively participate in sports. He emphasized that sports foster discipline and leadership qualities while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Khandu also informed students about the state government’s scholarship initiative. This program supports students who gain admission to the world’s top 150 universities, providing full sponsorship. He urged students to take full advantage of this scheme and embrace opportunities for global experiences.
Highlighting government priorities, the Chief Minister noted that there has been a consistent focus on education and healthcare. Continuous efforts are being made to address infrastructure deficiencies in educational institutions.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to meeting the future needs of Der Natung Government College. Khandu assured that any new infrastructure requirements, including additional classrooms for newly established departments, would be fulfilled in a timely manner.
Paying tribute to the late former Education Minister and prominent leader of the Nyishi community, Swargiya Der Natung, the Chief Minister stated that this institution continues to uphold his vision of empowering youth through quality education.
He congratulated the college principal and faculty for maintaining strong academic development. Currently, over 4,600 students are enrolled in the college, supported by 14 academic departments across arts, science, and commerce faculties.
Emphasizing the importance of sports infrastructure, Khandu mentioned that the newly constructed badminton and judo hall, along with the recreation hall, will play a crucial role in promoting students’ overall development.
Regarding education reforms, he highlighted the launch of ‘Mission Educated Arunachal 2029,’ which aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The government is simultaneously upgrading infrastructure and implementing academic reforms to align educational standards with global benchmarks.
The Chief Minister also underscored the growing importance of technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in education. He urged students to responsibly embrace technological advancements. Initiatives related to real-time monitoring of educational outcomes and improvements through artificial intelligence and knowledge review centers have already been initiated.
Announcing further initiatives, Khandu stated that two science centers will be established in Namsaai and Dirang to foster scientific curiosity and a love for learning, complete with planetariums; approvals for these projects have already been secured.
Focusing on skill development, he highlighted emerging opportunities in hydropower, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, and entrepreneurship. He encouraged students to focus on skill-based education and aspire to become job creators rather than job seekers.
The Chief Minister also mentioned various government initiatives, including the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Self-Reliance Scheme, startup support programs, and the Arunachal Pradesh Investment and Innovation Park.
Additionally, he announced the creation of an ‘Arunachal Creative Economy’ cell within the Chief Minister’s office. This initiative aims to promote local talents in arts, music, weaving, and other creative fields, providing them with a global platform for development.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to youth development, Khandu urged students to remain disciplined, focused, and visionary in their pursuit of goals.
