Apple Music Reveals Unique Logo Featuring Ripples Created by Sound
Apple Music has unveiled a new logo that visually embodies sound waves, crafted through innovative techniques involving music and a mineral oil tank.

Apple Music has revealed a new logo that visually represents musical sound waves. This design features a musical note appearing beneath ripples in water, a concept based on the ‘Liquid Glass’ aesthetic that Apple is adopting across its software.
The logo was created through a unique process involving a shallow bath filled with mineral oil. Apple collaborated with music producer Fred Again and sound design company Nest Acoustics for this project. By using a transducer to convert sound into physical vibrations, the team filmed the resulting ripples to form the basis of the new visual identity.
In addition to the logo, the rebranding introduces an updated typeface combining the Apple symbol with a customized version of Apple’s existing SF Pro font. This new design aims to convey a youthful energy, with bold lowercase lettering accompanying the logo. The complete rebranding will begin to appear across Apple Music’s original content and promotional material this week.
Apple presented the new branding last month during the introduction of Apple Music Hall, its new venue in London. The update also includes a change to the app’s icon, transitioning from red to black-and-white, which has generated mixed reactions from users online.
According to Apple, the new design concept emphasizes the synergy between sound and visuals, highlighting the hands-on craftsmanship behind the brand. A behind-the-scenes video documenting this creative process has also been released, illustrating how sound influenced the visual elements.
While the new branding has stirred some criticism, many in the design community appreciate the effort to document the human involvement in the creative process. As one analyst noted, this emphasis on human-crafted visuals stands out in a digital environment increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence.
