Mumbai, August 12: Anand Dubey, spokesperson for Shiv Sena (UBT), has responded to various pressing issues, including environmental protection, the FCRA Bill, and the ongoing controversy involving actress Kangana Ranaut and Naseeruddin Shah. He urged leaders to exercise restraint and prioritize serious discussions on these matters.
On environmental issues, Dubey emphasized that the need for environmental protection does not rely on statements from leaders or actors. He pointed out that technical experts and relevant officials consistently inform society about substances that can adversely affect public health. Many chemicals can be harmful not only to humans but also to animals and birds. Therefore, if regulations regarding environmental protection are updated periodically, it is a natural process that the public should adhere to. Maharashtra already has a ban on plastic use, and citizens should be prepared for any new regulations aimed at environmental conservation.
Regarding proposed changes to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), Dubey noted that this law was first enacted in 1976 and has undergone several amendments since. He welcomed the government’s decision to send this issue to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for extensive discussion. The JPC comprises representatives from various political parties, allowing for a thorough examination of the proposed law and the opportunity for suggestions. If any changes to the draft are deemed necessary, they can be considered.
Dubey stressed that the government should allow sufficient time for this process. The government will introduce any bill or engage in discussions and voting in the house only after the JPC submits its final report. Currently, comprehensive discussions are essential.
On the controversy between Kangana Ranaut and Naseeruddin Shah, Dubey remarked that Ranaut has made several controversial statements in the past. He suggested that instead of focusing on the exchanges between artists, discussions should center on the country’s significant issues. As India approaches its 80th Independence Day, it is crucial to reflect on the nation’s achievements, losses, and future direction. While both Ranaut and Shah may have differences today, they might engage in dialogue in the future. Thus, their personal disputes should not overshadow national concerns. Patriotism should take precedence over political or personal conflicts.
Criticizing the BJP regarding Ranaut’s statements, Dubey stated that as a woman and a Member of Parliament, she should maintain the dignity of her position. He suggested that the less she speaks, the better it would be for the BJP. However, he also noted that it is up to the BJP and Ranaut to decide the nature of their political discourse.
Dubey described the incident involving an Air India pilot failing a drug test on the Phuket-Delhi flight as extremely unfortunate. He warned that if pilots operate under the influence, it endangers the lives of hundreds of passengers. Given the involvement of Air India, the government must remain vigilant and strict in such cases. Strict action should be taken against individuals who jeopardize passenger safety.
Addressing the ongoing political commentary regarding Sunetra Pawar, Dubey called for restraint among leaders. He referred to Sunetra as a daughter and sister of Maharashtra and emphasized that derogatory remarks about her, especially during a sensitive time following Ajit Pawar’s absence, are inappropriate. Personal comments, such as calling someone a “dumb doll” or criticizing her English, are unacceptable. It is wrong to make such remarks without understanding a person’s family background.
He highlighted that the Pawar family is a respected political dynasty in Maharashtra. While ideological differences and political struggles are natural, personally insulting a woman should not be part of Maharashtra’s political culture.
Referring to senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Dubey advised him to think carefully before making comments. He stated that as a senior leader, Chavan is expected to exhibit more responsibility and restraint. While ideological disputes have long existed in Maharashtra politics, they should not descend into personal insults. Disagreements are acceptable, but leaders should maintain the dignity of their interactions to uphold Maharashtra’s political culture and traditions.
