New Delhi, August 12: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting a discussion in Parliament regarding the student protests related to the NEET paper leak. He emphasized that the government is fully prepared to engage in this dialogue.
In his letter to the Speaker, Shah stated, “Sir, you are aware that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has agreed on behalf of the government to discuss the student protests concerning the NEET examination during the Business Advisory Committee meeting.”
Shah noted that discussions on the National Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, had already taken place in the current session of Parliament, prior to the opposition’s request. He pointed out that no opposition member had expressed any views regarding NEET during those discussions. Nevertheless, the government is ready to revisit the issue.
The Home Minister urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to coordinate with the opposition to mutually agree on a suitable time for this discussion. He wrote, “I request you to discuss with the opposition and allocate as much time as you deem appropriate starting today. I wish to be present in the House during this time and am prepared to answer all questions from the opposition.”
Shah highlighted the importance of democratic values, stating, “In democracy, solutions emerge through discussion and dialogue. I have unwavering faith in democracy and democratic institutions, and I believe this House exists for discussion and dialogue.”
He urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to facilitate a constructive environment for this vital topic, allowing all honorable members from both sides to present their valuable opinions and thoughts.
