
Amstelveen, August 19: In an exhilarating match at the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026, India triumphed over Pakistan with a score of 5-3, securing their place in the next round. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his joy over this remarkable victory, stating that the team has maintained India’s dominance that has persisted for decades.
With this win, the Indian team has advanced to the next stage, while Pakistan’s journey in the World Cup has come to an end. India has consistently outperformed their arch-rivals Pakistan over the past decade, winning all encounters at both senior and junior levels since 2016.
Amit Shah congratulated the team on their impressive performance via social media platform ‘X’, saying, “Congratulations to Team India for defeating Pakistan in today’s Hockey World Cup 2026 match. With excellent control of the game and outstanding skills, you have upheld India’s long-standing dominance. Best wishes for the upcoming matches.”
The match, held at the Wagner Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, saw Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh and Abhishek each scoring two goals. Harmanpreet netted goals from penalty corners in the 5th and 21st minutes, while Abhishek scored field goals in the 11th and 24th minutes. For Pakistan, Hanan Shahid scored twice, and Sufiyan Khan added one goal to reduce the deficit. Hardik Singh scored India’s fifth goal.
India played with composure in the final moments of the match, clinching the victory with a score of 5-3. This result places India second in Pool D, firmly in the race for the semifinals, while England advanced as the pool winner, and Pakistan along with Wales moved to the classification stage.
