Amarinder Singh Raja Wading Resigns as Punjab Congress Chief, Citing Pressure Awareness

New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Amarinder Singh Raja Wading announced his resignation from the position of Punjab Congress president on Friday, stating he made the decision after assessing the political climate. He emphasized that he did not want the party’s central leadership to feel pressured in any way.

Wading submitted his resignation to senior party leader Rahul Gandhi. Speaking to reporters, he clarified, “It doesn’t matter whether anyone asked for my resignation or if I chose to resign on my own. In fact, no one requested my resignation.”

He likened his decision to the instinct of older women in households who can sense impending rain and prepare accordingly. “I understood the situation well. There was never a need for anyone to ask me to resign. That’s why I preemptively noted ‘former’ in my bio, to avoid such a scenario. What kind of leader would I be if I couldn’t gauge the circumstances? So, while no one asked for my resignation, I formally submitted it to Rahul today and expressed my gratitude.”

Wading declined to comment on any internal disputes within the Punjab Congress, stating he had not spoken to any party leaders, including in-charge Sachin Pilot. However, he mentioned hearing that there might be a suggestion to replace him.

When asked if he had presented his case to Pilot, he responded, “I only present my case to one person, and that is Rahul Gandhi.” Regarding speculation that his resignation was influenced by pressure from former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and other party leaders, he reiterated his desire to avoid putting anyone under pressure, stating, “I didn’t want my leader to feel any external pressure, so I resigned beforehand.”

As for his future plans, Wading indicated he would focus on serving at the Gurudwara and meditating for now. He expressed willingness to accept any responsibilities the party may assign him afterward.
