Washington, October 24 (Daily Kiran) — In a significant disruption, Alaska Airlines, one of the leading carriers in the United States, temporarily grounded all its flights on Thursday following a major technical failure in its IT network.
According to a report by The Seattle Times, the airline announced around 4:20 p.m. that an “IT issue” had affected operations, forcing the company to suspend all flight movements. As a result, Alaska Airlines aircraft are currently not taking off from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport or other airports across the country.
In an advisory to passengers, the airline urged all travellers with Thursday bookings to check their flight status before heading to the airport, citing ongoing technical issues.
This is not the first time the airline has faced such a disruption. In July this year, Alaska Airlines had to suspend operations for nearly three hours due to a failure in one of its data centre hardware systems, which led to the cancellation of over 200 flights and disrupted travel plans for nearly 15,600 passengers.
Alaska Airlines is the seventh-largest airline in the United States, headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Established in 1932 as McGee Airways, the company now serves more than 100 destinations across the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Costa Rica.
