Akshaya Tritiya: A Day for Prosperity Beyond Gold Purchases

New Delhi, April 15: Akshaya Tritiya is considered an extremely auspicious and sacred day in Sanatan Dharma. Also known as Akha Teej, it falls on the third day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Baisakh. The term ‘Akshaya’ means ‘never diminishing’. Therefore, any auspicious activity, donation, chanting, or Yajna performed on this day yields eternal benefits that continually grow.

This year, Akshaya Tritiya will be celebrated on Sunday, April 19. The tradition of buying gold on this day is very ancient. It is believed that gold purchased on Akshaya Tritiya never diminishes and continuously appreciates. This day is regarded as one that brings good fortune, prosperity, and success. Not only does gold hold significance, but the merits of good deeds performed on this day also multiply.

According to the Drik Panchang, the auspicious timing for worship on Akshaya Tritiya will be from 10:49 AM to 12:20 PM on Sunday. The Tritiya Tithi will last from 10:49 AM on April 19 until 7:27 AM on April 20.

Engaging in worship, donations, and purchasing new items during this auspicious period is highly fruitful. Gold holds special importance on Akshaya Tritiya as it pleases both the Sun God and Goddess Lakshmi. Buying gold enhances wealth and ensures peace and happiness within the family.

However, in this era of rising prices, purchasing gold may not be feasible for everyone. According to astrologers, there is no need to feel regret if one cannot buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya. Instead, purchasing certain alternatives is considered highly auspicious:

– Clay pots: Strengthen the planet Mars, providing relief from debts and obstacles.
– Cotton: Associated with Venus, it attracts the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and alleviates poverty.
– Turmeric roots: Empower the planet Jupiter, enhancing stability and respect in life.
– Yellow mustard: Drives away poverty and negative energy.
– Yellow cowries: Attract wealth, property, and prosperity.

Additionally, buying copper is also regarded as auspicious. It strengthens the Sun and enhances social status. Donating white items such as milk, yogurt, rice, and kheer on this day is particularly rewarding. Reciting the Kanakadhara Stotra, composed by Adi Shankaracharya, is also recommended. Furthermore, inaugurating new clothes, jewelry, homes, or institutions is considered auspicious.
