New Delhi, August 13: An interim report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) regarding the Air India flight AI 2379 turbulence incident is anticipated to be released ahead of schedule. Sources indicated this information on Thursday.
The Air India flight, traveling from Phuket to Delhi at an altitude of 36,000 feet, suddenly descended by 300 feet, resulting in injuries to approximately 24 passengers.
Sources revealed that the government has instructed the AAIB to expedite the investigation into this matter. Unlike the previous incident involving Air India flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad, all evidence related to this case is intact. The Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) have been secured. Medical examination records and statements will be collected to facilitate a quicker investigation.
Additionally, aviation regulators and the Ministry of Civil Aviation have reprimanded Air India. The airline has been urged to improve its operational practices. There is a pressing need for stringent regulations to address the issue of doping among flight crews.
According to sources, the analysis of FDR and CVR data will be accelerated. The AAIB’s investigation and reporting process will be hastened to establish stricter laws and penalties.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the chief pilot of the Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi tested positive in a second doping test. Screening conducted after the flight in Delhi revealed that the pilot’s drug test was positive. A subsequent test also returned a positive result, confirming the pilot’s use of marijuana, commonly referred to as ‘weed.’
