Adani Ports Expands Partnership with Caleris to Transform Port and Logistics Network with AI

Ahmedabad, June 16: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) has announced an expansion of its partnership with the American company Caleris. This strategic move aims to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the company’s port and logistics network.

In a filing to the exchange, Adani Group stated that this partnership will implement advanced automation, optimization, and digital operating solutions across 15 container terminals. This initiative is expected to enhance operational efficiency, increase capacity, and strengthen the technology-driven growth strategy.

This collaboration is a crucial component of APSEZ’s comprehensive strategic plan extending to the fiscal year 2031. Under this plan, the company is set to invest $850 million in technological modernization and carbon emission reduction.

Approximately $100 million of this proposed investment will be allocated in two phases to expedite the implementation of automation and optimization in port operations alongside Caleris.

This initiative aligns with APSEZ’s broader goal of developing a technology-based integrated transport platform, aiming to achieve an annual cargo handling capacity of one billion tons by 2030.

Under this multi-year agreement, Caleris will deploy its terminal operating system and AI-based container handling and optimization solutions at 15 APSEZ container terminals located at nine domestic and international ports.

The expansion builds on the success of the initial phase, where these technologies were already implemented at six ports.

Ashwini Gupta, APSEZ’s full-time director and CEO, emphasized that AI-based automation will define the next phase of competition in the port and logistics sector. He stated, “APSEZ is already operating an end-to-end digital platform from the coast to the final destination, offering seamless tracking and integrated command and control capabilities. The integration with Caleris will enhance productivity, reduce turnaround time, and provide a better experience for customers.”

APSEZ noted that this project will create an integrated digital framework for its maritime and logistics network, enabling improved planning, automation, and operational efficiency.

The company estimates that this collaboration will achieve an additional 91 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo handling capacity by 2030, representing about 10% of its current established capacity.

Kirk Noff, President and CEO of Caleris, remarked, “APSEZ is demonstrating the real impact of a large-scale AI-enabled port network.” He added, “The expansion to all 15 terminals is proof that this partnership has already yielded positive results and strengthened the trust between both companies.”
