Adani Group to Create 40,000 Jobs in Assam as State Emerges as Energy Hub

Guwahati, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : The Adani Group is poised to transform Assam into a major energy hub, according to the company’s director, Jit Adani. Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony for a 3,200-megawatt thermal power project in the Dhubri district, he emphasized the state’s potential to become “India’s battery.”

Jit Adani noted that Assam has undergone significant changes in recent years, making it one of the most attractive investment destinations in the country. “In the past five years, I’ve visited Assam 40 times. Today, standing here among all of you is a great honor,” he stated.

He expressed confidence that Assam would not only generate energy for its own needs but also serve as a crucial energy provider for the entire nation. He attributed this progress to the conducive environment fostered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which has spurred economic growth and infrastructure development across the state.

Assam is increasingly recognized not only for its natural beauty and cultural heritage but also as a center for investment, industry, and large-scale development projects. Jit Adani highlighted that the Adani Group initially aimed to contribute to the state’s development but soon identified opportunities for expansion across various sectors. He praised Chief Minister Sarma for his focus on expediting project completion and implementation.

At last year’s “Rising Northeast Global Investors Summit,” Group Chairman Gautam Adani announced plans for an investment of up to ₹1 lakh crore in the Northeast over the next decade. Jit Adani reported that work has already begun in Assam with an investment of approximately ₹80,000 crore.

Creating job opportunities and ensuring local participation are central to the group’s investment strategy. The upcoming thermal power project, with an investment of ₹48,000 crore, is expected to be the largest power-generating project in the Northeast.

He revealed that the Adani Group has already conducted four to five job drives, successfully employing around 4,500 local youths. The group’s operations in Assam are projected to generate nearly 40,000 direct and indirect jobs for the local population.

“This is just the beginning. As we progress in Assam, more opportunities will arise for local youth. Our goal is to ensure that as much local talent as possible actively participates in this development journey,” Jit Adani concluded.
