SBI Chairman Highlights Opportunities in Sunrise Sectors for Global Investment Cycle

SBI Chairman C.S. Setty emphasizes Indias potential in renewable energy and technology sectors for attracting global investments.

New Delhi, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : C.S. Setty, the Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI), announced on September 23 that the next major wave of global investment will be driven by emerging sectors such as renewable energy, semiconductors, battery storage, green hydrogen, robotics, and biotechnology. Speaking at the 13th SBI Banking and Economics Conclave, he highlighted the crucial role that India’s banking and financial sector will play in facilitating this transformation.

Setty noted that a significant portion of global capital is expected to flow into these burgeoning industries in the coming years, which will stimulate economic growth, technological advancement, and the creation of new job opportunities. He expressed confidence that India is well-positioned to capitalize on this shift, thanks to its skilled workforce, robust entrepreneurial ecosystem, and rapidly evolving technological capabilities.

According to Setty, India’s primary challenge lies not in a lack of talent or innovation, but in converting these capabilities into commercially successful enterprises, advanced technologies, and globally competitive intellectual property. He emphasized the need for India to establish companies that can compete on the world stage and lead in cutting-edge technologies.

Setty also discussed the evolving role of banks and financial institutions in emerging economies. As the economy shifts towards high-value manufacturing, green technologies, and innovation-driven growth, the financial sector will need to adapt its financing models and frameworks. He pointed out that the needs of capital-intensive and technology-based industries differ from those of traditional sectors, necessitating long-term financing and specialized financial solutions.

He stressed that banks must play a central role in building a financial framework that supports innovation, investment, and expansion. In order for India to achieve global competitiveness in these sunrise sectors, financial institutions must evolve at a similar pace.

Setty concluded by stating that the goal of economic development should not only be to achieve high growth rates but also to translate that growth into global competitiveness and leadership in industries. He asserted, “India must strengthen its capacity to build world-class companies that can successfully compete in international markets.”
