New Delhi, February 11: Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee responded to comedian Vir Das’s reaction video regarding the mention of ‘Two Indias’ in Parliament. He remarked on the beauty of “Two Indias,” where one perspective raises questions, while the other views it as a public relations opportunity.
Banerjee took to his social media account on X, stating, “Ah, the beauty of Two Indias. One asks a comedian about the ‘Two Indias’ divide, while the other turns the same debate into perfect PR for a tour announcement. Democracy has a sense of humor. May your shows be houseful, and may you have a fantastic tour ahead.”
Earlier, Vir Das expressed surprise at Banerjee referencing his ‘Two Indias’ monologue during a speech in Parliament. In his address on the Union Budget 2026-27, Banerjee mentioned Das, suggesting it served as a “warning.” Following this, the actor shared a video reacting to the MP’s speech.
On Tuesday, Banerjee described Vir’s 2021 ‘Two Indias’ monologue as prophetic. He said, “Sir, in November 2021, thousands of miles away, on a stage at the Kennedy Center, a young Indian stand-up comedian, Vir Das, spoke about two Indias. Many laughed, some were upset, and only a few paused to listen carefully. What he said was not humor; it was a warning, a prophecy, a mirror held up to a nation standing on the brink of its contradictions, as I too, sir, come from two Indias.”
Following this, Vir Das shared a reaction video, expressing his astonishment that his name was mentioned in Parliament. He humorously remarked, “You in Parliament? Really? Oh wow! Is this all happening in Parliament?” He laughed and asked, “Some people were upset? Who? On the floor of Parliament?”
Interestingly, Vir seized the moment to announce his ‘Hey Stranger: A Tour of the World.’ He said, “Wow! Friends, I’m leaving the country. I’m going on a world tour, and it seems like the right time to announce it.”
