New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a fierce attack on Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding recent changes to Form-6. Party leader Manish Sisodia alleged that the Supreme Court exposed the Chief Election Commissioner‘s falsehoods during a recent hearing.
Sisodia stated that the Supreme Court clarified it never authorized any modifications to Form-6. He questioned the basis on which the Election Commission made these changes.
According to Sisodia, Gyanesh Kumar altered Form-6 unilaterally, without seeking approval from the Supreme Court or obtaining consent from the other election commissioners. He pointed out that a press release from the Election Commission claimed the changes were made with the Supreme Court’s approval, but the court’s comments have raised doubts about this assertion.
He emphasized that the alterations to Form-6, which is crucial for registering new voters, are a serious issue. If these changes hinder citizens from adding their names to the voter list, it directly impacts their democratic rights.
Sisodia accused the Election Commission of attempting to undermine the voting rights of citizens. He stressed that the concerns driving the youth of the nation to protest should be taken seriously.
In addition, AAP’s Delhi state president, Saurabh Bhardwaj, also criticized the Election Commission. He claimed that the Commission linked the changes to Form-6 with a Supreme Court order in a press note issued on September 26, 2026. However, during Monday’s Supreme Court hearing, the court denied issuing any such directive.
Bhardwaj questioned whether the Election Commission could invoke the Supreme Court’s name to support claims that the court did not affirm. He argued that if false information was presented under the court’s name, it would be a grave issue warranting contempt proceedings against the Chief Election Commissioner.
Bhardwaj added that the changes to Form-6 could adversely affect many citizens whose names were removed from the voter list and who wish to re-register. However, the Election Commission has not responded to these allegations.
The AAP leaders demanded the immediate resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, stressing the importance of maintaining the credibility of constitutional institutions. Bhardwaj warned that if Kumar does not resign, a peaceful protest will be held at Jantar Mantar on October 10.
He further criticized the Election Commission’s position in the ongoing Supreme Court hearing, asserting that it weakened their argument. Bhardwaj reiterated the call for contempt proceedings against the Chief Election Commissioner.
The political debate surrounding the allegations against the Election Commission and the Supreme Court proceedings has intensified. The Commission’s response and the official record of the Supreme Court’s actions are now seen as crucial in this matter.
