Mumbai : In a historic move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced equal match fees for both Indian men’s and women’s cricketers.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced this historic decision on his official Twitter handle. Shah tweeted, I am happy to announce BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted women cricketers. Matches for both male and female cricketers The fee will be the same as we usher in a new era of gender equality in Indian cricket.
BCCI secretary Shah also highlighted the new fees for contracted players and stressed that the Indian women’s cricket team will earn match fees at the same level as their male counterparts.
In another tweet, she said, Women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts by BCCI. This includes ₹15 lakh for Tests, ₹6 lakh for ODIs and ₹3 lakh for T20 Internationals.
