Sydney : India registered their second win by defeating the Netherlands by 56 runs in their second match of the ICC T20 World Cup on Thursday. In this match, the Indian team, batting first, scored 179 runs for 2 wickets in their 20 overs, thanks to the excellent half-centuries of Virat Kohli (62 not out), Suryakumar Yadav (51 not out) and captain Rohit Sharma (53). In reply, the Netherlands team could only manage 123 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Chasing 180, Netherlands got off to a poor start as Vikramjit Singh (01), Max O’Dowd (16) and Bass de Leide (16) returned to the pavilion after scoring 47 runs in the first 10 overs. After this, the wickets of the Netherlands kept falling at regular intervals and the team could only manage 123 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Tim Pringle scored 20 runs for Netherlands. Shariz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 16 and Paul Welle Mikren scored 14 runs.

For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin took 2-2 and Mohammed Shami took 1 wicket.

In this match, India won the toss and decided to bat first. India got off to a poor start and KL Rahul scored 9 runs on a total of just 11 runs and was dismissed lbw off Paul Wayne Mikren. Though the ball was living outside the leg-stump, if Rahul had taken the DRS, he would have survived. After Rahul’s dismissal, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli took charge of India’s innings. Rohit became the victim of Fred Klaasen by scoring 53 runs in 39 balls. Rohit hit 4 fours and 3 sixes. After this, Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli did not allow any further damage and in 20 overs, India’s score reached 179 for 2 wickets.

Kohli remained unbeaten on 62 off 44 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes and Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 51 off 25 balls with 7 fours and a six.

For Ireland, Paul Wayne Mikeren and Fred Klaasen took 1-1 wickets.
