New Delhi, April 6 : A total of 34 persons belonging to the minority comm ties have lost their lives in the terrorist related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir during the last five years, government informed Rajya Sabha Wednesday. Responding to MP Mahesh Poddar, MoS Home Nityanand Rai said 11 persons of minority comm ty lost their lives in the year 2017, 03 persons killed in 2018, 06 killed in 2019, 3 killed in 2020 and 11 persons belonging from the minority comm ty have lost their lives in terror related incidents in the year 2021. “An ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakhs is given under the scheme Central Scheme for Assistance to Civilian Victims/ Family of Victims of Terrorist /Communal/ LWE Violence and Cross Border Firing and Mine/IED Blasts on Indian Territory. In addition, Rs.1 lakh is paid to the Next of Kin of civilians killed in militancy related violence under the existing scheme of Government of Jammu and Kashmir,” the minister further said. He said the government has taken several measures to ensure safety of minorities in the valley. “These include a robust security and intelligence grid, group security in the form of static guards, day & night area domination, round the clock checking at Nakas, patrolling is being carried out in the areas where the minorities reside besides proactive operations against terrorists,” he added.
