Mumbai, May 5: Veteran actress Zeenat Aman recently took to social media to share a nostalgic tale from her youth. She recounted how she lost a valuable watch while attending a charity cricket match alongside the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and actress Simi Garewal.
In her latest post, Zeenat detailed the incident involving her expensive watch. She explained that a wealthy friend gifted her a stunning Rolex, which was later stolen during an event.
In her caption, she humorously remarked, “It’s true that my captions can be quite lengthy and winding. All I can say is—my page, my rules! Please let me know if this format makes it easier to read. Keep swiping!”
She continued, “My friend Amina was a very affluent woman. Her husband, a billionaire of Arab descent, fulfilled every little wish of hers. They owned lavish palaces in various cities around the world, filled with expensive furniture, art, and unique items. Whenever we visited any of their homes, my sons were strictly instructed not to touch anything, to avoid breaking any precious items.”
The actress elaborated, “Amina was a kind and considerate friend. She understood my passion for watches and gifted me a Rolex that was worth more than anything I had owned until then. That Rolex became my most treasured possession, and hardly a day went by without it on my wrist.”
She added, “But fate plays strange games. Just a few years after receiving the watch, a charity cricket match was organized in New Delhi for the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, attended by none other than Prime Minister Indira Gandhi herself. Many actors from Bombay traveled to the capital either to play or watch the match.”
Zeenat mentioned, “I was in the mood to play and decided to participate. We were advised to remove all our jewelry and accessories, and of course, we couldn’t take our handbags onto the field. Fortunately, Muzaffar Ali graciously offered to keep an eye on our bags during the match. Being cautious, I placed my precious Rolex in my bag, blending it with the other bags, and went off to play. When we returned, laughing and sweaty, my bag was nowhere to be found! It was the only bag that went missing.”
The actress wrote, “Yes, that day my handbag and everything in it was stolen, never to be recovered. I was very upset, but I had to muster courage in light of the situation. After that incident, I refrained from wearing expensive watches for a long time until my sons recently gifted me a beautiful Cartier watch for a special occasion.”
Zeenat concluded, “Seeing the initial picture reminded me of this story, and you can swipe to see a photo from that very day. Have you ever had something precious stolen? Share your story in the comments. P.S. Amina is not her real name!”
Now 74 years old, Zeenat Aman was born on November 19, 1951, and remains one of the most celebrated actresses in Hindi cinema. Her films, including ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna,’ ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat,’ ‘Don,’ ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram,’ and ‘Qurbani,’ have been major hits.
