Amritsar, May 20: A young man has been arrested in Amritsar for allegedly kidnapping a girl and subsequently raping her. The police from the Civil Lines station presented the accused in court on Wednesday. According to reports, the suspect was initially taken into custody for six days and has now been remanded to judicial custody.
In an interview with a news agency, Civil Lines police officer Gurpreet Singh identified the arrested individual as Gurvinder Singh, also known as Guri Chahal. The case was registered after the girl’s father reported that the accused had eloped with his daughter under the pretense of marriage. However, during the investigation, charges of rape were also added.
The police officer stated that after the arrest, the suspect was presented in court to secure a remand for a thorough investigation of all aspects of the case. Authorities are currently trying to determine where the accused took the girl and if there are any other individuals involved in this incident.
The investigation is ongoing. Based on the information gathered during the interrogation of the suspect, several other angles are being explored to uncover the truth behind the case. The accused is approximately 30 years old and is known to run an IT company in Mohali, while his family is engaged in agriculture.
Currently, one case has been registered against him. If any additional facts or complaints arise during the investigation, further legal action will be taken accordingly. The police confirmed that the suspect was apprehended in the Gurudaspur area and emphasized that they are examining every aspect of the case, with further actions to be based on the evidence collected.
