Lucknow, July 21: The Yogi government’s cabinet meeting has approved the proposal to convene the third session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature on August 3, 2026. This upcoming session will address the supplementary budget for the financial year 2026-27, replacement bills for ordinances, and other significant legislative matters.
The second session of the state legislature was convened on April 30 and was adjourned indefinitely after the meetings of both the Assembly and the Legislative Council concluded on the same day. The session was officially closed on May 7, 2026. According to Article 174 of the Constitution and the procedural rules of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, there cannot be a gap of more than six months between two sessions of the legislature. This constitutional requirement has led to the decision to call the upcoming session.
During a press conference at the media center of Lok Bhawan, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna stated that demands for supplementary grants for the financial year 2026-27 will be presented before the legislature. Additionally, replacement bills for the ordinances promulgated after the previous session’s adjournment will also be introduced and passed in the house. Other essential legislative and governmental tasks will be carried out as well.
He mentioned that, according to the procedural rules of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, members are typically informed about the scheduled session date seven days in advance. Following the cabinet’s decision, the third session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature will commence on August 3, 2026. During this session, demands for supplementary grants, replacement bills for ordinances, and other necessary legislative work will be addressed.
