Gorakhpur, April 23: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing four-lane road from Dominagarh Madhopur Bund to Mahesra Bridge, along with the construction of an overbridge in Dominagarh on Thursday. He reviewed the project details, which include the road construction from Rajghat Bridge through Habert Bund to Dominagarh, Koliya, and Gahasadh Bund, leading to the Jungle Kaudia-Kalesar route.
During the inspection, he emphasized the importance of these three projects for facilitating smooth traffic and flood prevention. After attending the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony of development projects worth ₹1,055 crores, the Chief Minister first stopped at the bund in front of Lal Diggi. Here, he examined the drawing map of the four-lane road project and inquired about the progress.
Adityanath instructed officials from the Public Works Department, Construction Division 2, to expedite the work and prepare for its early completion for public use. He later stopped at the bund near Ilahibagh to assess the construction progress. He set a new target for completing the four-lane road by July 2026, ahead of the original deadline of September 2026. He also urged the municipal commissioner to enhance the aesthetics of the final stretch of the road leading to Mahesra.
The Chief Minister noted that there is garbage accumulating near the water body adjacent to the road, suggesting that development similar to Eco Park could be implemented there. After inspecting the four-lane road, he gathered information on the progress of the overbridge on the Jagatbela-Dominagarh rail section at Rahmatnagar-Madhopur Road. Following a review of the drawing map, he directed for a faster pace of construction.
Addressing the crowd gathered near Dominagarh Chowki, CM Yogi stated that a new series of developments is underway in Gorakhpur to enhance the quality of life. He mentioned that the completion of the four-lane road and the overbridge in Dominagarh would significantly ease travel for residents of Ghunghun Kotha, Jagatbela, and surrounding areas. The strengthened embankment will also provide better flood protection.
With the new four-lane road, travel to Jungle Kaudia-Kalesar or the Sonouli route will become much easier. Adityanath highlighted that improved connectivity will be available outside the city, eliminating the need for travelers heading to Nepal via Rajghat and Teepinagar to enter the city. This four-lane road will allow direct access to Mahesra and subsequently to the Sonouli route.
He expressed confidence that the executing agencies would complete the work on time, providing significant relief to the public. The construction of the four-lane road from Dominagarh Madhopur Bund to Mahesra Bridge, spanning 10.2 km at a cost of ₹379.54 crores, is being carried out by the Public Works Department, Construction Division 2, with a completion target set for September 2026.
However, the Chief Minister has directed that it be completed by July. Similarly, the four-lane road construction from Rajghat Bridge through Habert Bund to Dominagarh, Koliya, and Gahasadh Bund is underway, costing ₹195.21 crores for the 4.07 km stretch.
According to the Public Works Department, over 75% of the work is already completed, with a goal to finish by May 2026. The construction of the overbridge on the Jagatbela-Dominagarh rail section at Rahmatnagar-Madhopur Road is being undertaken at a cost of ₹132.60 crores, with a completion deadline set for December 2027.
Once completed, this bridge will connect the Rohin River’s left bank from Teepinagar and Kalesar Jungle Kaudia route to the Habert Bund and Madhopur Bund, providing direct access to the Gorakhpur-Sonouli route. This will greatly benefit travelers heading to Sonouli, saving both time and fuel.
