Yoga Poses to Alleviate Period Pain and Stress, Advises AYUSH Ministry

New Delhi, April 3: Many women experience discomfort during their menstrual cycles, including pain, fatigue, mood swings, and irregular periods. Health experts recommend incorporating specific yoga poses into daily routines to help alleviate these issues.

According to the AYUSH Ministry, yoga can significantly reduce these problems naturally. Regular yoga practice helps regulate the menstrual cycle, lessen pain, and reduce mental stress. The ministry has suggested several easy and effective yoga poses for women to improve their health during menstruation. These poses can be performed at home and are effective in minimizing discomfort during periods.

Experts indicate that consistently practicing these poses not only alleviates physical issues related to menstruation but also enhances mental well-being. It is also essential to maintain mindfulness during yoga practice. However, if pain becomes severe during periods, it is advisable to consult a doctor or an Ayurvedic specialist. Incorporating a healthy diet, adequate hydration, and good sleep along with yoga can be beneficial.

For better menstrual health, try Supta Baddha Konasana. This pose opens the pelvic area, increases blood circulation, and reduces abdominal and lower back pain. Another beneficial pose is Paschimottanasana, which stretches the back and leg muscles, providing relief from menstrual cramps and pain while also reducing stress. Vakarasana, which involves twisting the spine, strengthens the digestive system and helps address menstrual irregularities.

Balasana, or Child’s Pose, offers deep relaxation, calming fatigue and mood swings associated with periods. Setu Bandhasana, also known as Bridge Pose, strengthens the lower back and pelvic area while aiding in hormonal balance. Additionally, Viparita Karani, where you lie on your back with your legs elevated against a wall, improves blood flow and reduces swelling and fatigue in the legs.
