Xi Jinping Engages with Jiangsu Delegation at National Peoples Congress Meeting

Beijing, March 6: Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, participated in the discussion meeting of the Jiangsu Provincial NPC delegation on March 5, during the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC).

During this meeting, he emphasized the need to confront a more complex environment and address deeper contradictions to achieve the goals and tasks outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development. Jiangsu and other major economic provinces, which are at the forefront of reform and opening up, should focus on studying new circumstances, solving new problems, and accumulating experiences.

The discussion meeting of the Jiangsu Provincial NPC delegation was lively and enthusiastic. Six representatives shared their thoughts on promoting new industrialization, integrating technological innovation with industrial innovation, strengthening research on major core technologies, building beautiful villages, addressing issues in the seed industry, and fostering a spirit of sportsmanship.

After listening to all the speeches, Xi Jinping delivered his remarks, expressing agreement with the government work report and outlining clear requirements for implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development, considering the realities of Jiangsu.

He stressed that developing new quality productive forces is crucial for promoting high-quality development and enhancing economic competitiveness. Jiangsu has a strong foundation in this regard and should strive to be a leader. The province should promote the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent, aiming for new successes in fundamental innovation and tackling major core technologies to achieve a leading position in the field of science and technology.

Xi Jinping emphasized that only provinces with a stable economic foundation and strong capacity to withstand external shocks can maintain the stability of the national economy. Jiangsu must continuously work to enhance its economic resilience. It should strengthen its internal capabilities, fully integrate into the national market, and assist in smoothing domestic economic cycles. Additionally, it should expand high-level openness, explore the global market extensively, and connect better with the international economic cycle to mitigate various risks.

He noted that Chinese-style modernization is a modernization of shared prosperity for all people. Jiangsu must accurately understand the new expectations of the public for a better life and the new forms of livelihood under new circumstances. The province should actively address issues such as achieving high-quality and full employment, increasing the income of urban and rural residents, and improving the level of basic public services and social guarantees, while also seeking effective ways to enhance common prosperity for all.
