Bharatpur, May 18: Anger erupted among women in the Aniruddh Nagar area of Bharatpur, Rajasthan, as they protested outside the Water Supply Department office on Monday. This outburst followed a severe drinking water crisis that has persisted for the last ten days.
Frustrated women smashed clay pots and chanted slogans against the department officials, demanding immediate action. They claimed that the water supply in their colony has been cut off for several days, causing significant hardship for residents. During the protest, the women confronted a department official, expressing that the lack of water has severely disrupted daily activities in their homes. They are struggling to access water for bathing and drinking.
One resident, Kranti, shared that water had been supplied sporadically until about ten days ago, with no fixed schedule. Sometimes water would arrive at 3 AM, other times at 6 AM. Now, the supply has completely ceased, forcing residents to resort to purchasing expensive water tankers.
Women reported that they are paying up to 2,000 rupees for a single water tanker. They also have to buy drinking water from the market. The water shortage is affecting children’s education, as the time spent arranging water in the morning causes delays in getting to school.
In response, Keshav Dev Pandey, an official from the Water Supply Department, stated that no formal complaints had been filed prior to Monday. Following the women’s complaints, an investigation is underway. He assured that water supply would resume in the colony by Tuesday, with GPS photos and videos provided to ensure transparency for the consumers.
