West Indies Opts to Bowl First in Rain-Shortened T20 Against India
In a rain-affected T20 match, West Indies won the toss and chose to bowl first, marking Bhuvneshwar Kumars return to the Indian team.

Bengaluru, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in a rain-affected T20 match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. Due to the weather, the match has been reduced to 9 overs per side. This game marks the return of fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the Indian squad after nearly four years. Alongside him, Shivam Dubey has also been included in the playing XI. The five-match series is currently tied at 2-2, making this match crucial for both teams.
Originally scheduled for 6:30 PM, the toss was delayed until 9 PM due to rain, with play set to begin at 9:15 PM. The powerplay will consist of 2.4 overs.
Bhuvneshwar last played a T20 match for India in November 2022 and had not made it back into the playing XI since then. Following impressive performances in the IPL with RCB, he has finally secured a spot in the team once again.
After winning the toss, West Indies captain Shai Hope stated, “We will bowl first. There is a chance of rain, but the pitch looks good. This gives us the best opportunity to chase a target. We have several strong batsmen in our lineup. Our focus is on bowling, especially in a short match. I want us to finish the series strongly, and everyone is excited for this challenge.”
Indian captain Shreyas Iyer responded, “The wicket looks good. We need to stay aggressive and not put too much pressure on ourselves. It’s important to maintain control of the match. We must perform at our best. The West Indies have various shots and play very strong cricket. We need to focus on our strengths as well. We have made two changes to the team with the return of Shivam Dubey and Bhuvi.”
After winning the ODI series 2-1 against West Indies, India took the lead in the T20 series with an 8-wicket victory in the first match. However, West Indies leveled the series with a 6-wicket win in the next game. India regained the lead with a 14-run win in the third match, but the visitors equalized again by winning the fourth match by 24 runs.
India’s playing XI includes: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer (captain), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dubey, Naman Dhir, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prince Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh.
