Kolkata, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Kolkata, September 14 — The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in West Bengal has completed its first month, marking a significant milestone in healthcare delivery, according to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Launched on August 16, 2026, the scheme has provided essential healthcare services to thousands of families in need.
In the inaugural month, more than 50,000 individuals received treatment across various hospitals. The scheme has incurred an expenditure exceeding ₹28 crores, easing the financial burden on economically disadvantaged families.
Adhikari noted that the benefits of the scheme extend beyond West Bengal. Over 1,102 patients accessed cashless medical services at hospitals outside the state. Additionally, hospitals within West Bengal treated 1,849 patients from other states, showcasing the commitment to healthcare services.
He emphasized that access to healthcare is a fundamental right for every citizen. The government is dedicated to ensuring affordable and quality medical services reach all residents. Ongoing efforts aim to strengthen public health infrastructure, reduce the economic burden of treatment on low-income families, and ensure that no individual is deprived of necessary healthcare.
In expressing gratitude to doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, and administrative officials, Adhikari acknowledged their tireless efforts, which have enabled timely treatment and improved health services for many.
The initial data from the Ayushman Bharat scheme indicates that it is becoming a vital source of relief for the public, with expectations that even more families will benefit in the future.
