West Bengal Police Allegedly Intimidating Opposition Party Workers, Claims Humayun Kabir
Humayun Kabir accuses West Bengal police of harassing his party members ahead of the upcoming by-elections, alleging political bias.

Murshidabad, September 24 (Daily Kiran) : Murshidabad’s Humayun Kabir, president of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) and MLA from the Naoda assembly seat, has accused local police of harassing party workers and intimidating voters. In a protest on Thursday morning, he staged a sit-in outside the Rejinagar police station, claiming that the police are attempting to influence the upcoming by-elections.
Speaking to reporters, Kabir alleged that police from Rejinagar, Shaktipur, and Beldanga stations are acting on directives from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He asserted that officers are pressuring Muslim families to leave their homes until after the elections, scheduled for October 6. Just the night before, police arrested Saiful Islam, a member of the Rampara-1 gram panchayat and a close associate of Kabir. He noted that around 15 of his party’s leaders and workers are currently detained on false charges.
Kabir criticized the police for not facilitating free and fair elections, claiming they are openly favoring the BJP. He stated that the filing of cases against AJUP workers is a tactic to weaken the party’s organization ahead of the elections.
He also targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that his appointment by the central government diminishes the likelihood of action against him. Kabir expressed concern over the Election Commission‘s conduct, suggesting it is inappropriate and influenced by governmental support.
He pointed out that since the announcement of the by-election date by Kumar, police actions have intensified. Kabir accused the police of collaborating with the government to benefit the BJP, violating the model code of conduct, and intimidating his party’s members.
