Kolkata, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : The West Bengal Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 100,000 employees across various state government departments during the fiscal year 2026-27. The hiring process is set to begin in October and will continue in phases until March next year.
This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Sources indicate that the recruitment drive will be conducted through 54 state government departments, with each department expected to hire between 7,000 and 15,000 employees based on vacancies and operational needs. The state government aims to accelerate the recruitment process in the final five months of the current fiscal year.
Most of the new positions will be in the state police and the school education department. Specifically, approximately 34,000 teaching and non-teaching staff positions will be filled in the education sector, spanning primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels.
The police department will see the second-largest recruitment, with plans to hire 4,000 personnel for Kolkata Police and 12,000 for West Bengal Police.
In addition to the recruitment initiative, the Cabinet approved the establishment of a new university named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The proposal for the new institution will be presented in the state assembly once it receives the necessary legislative approval.
This decision is particularly significant in light of recent announcements made by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during his visit to Purulia, focusing on tribal development.
