Wasim Akram backs ex-captain facing no-trust motion

Islamabad, April 2 : Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram on Saturday extended support to his ex-skipper and current Prime Minister Imran Khan who is facing no-confidence motion. Taking to Twitter, the erstwhile Pakistan pacer said, “He was born to lead, fight and win, not for himself but for what he is representing. It’s not the position or power or name he’s fighting for, Its his destiny! And the game is not over yet!” He was the member of 1992 World Cup-winning squad that was led by Imran Khan. The no-trust motion would be held on April 3. On Friday, Imran Khan claimed that the “establishment” gave him three options: “resignation, no-confidence (vote) or elections”. He said, “I cannot even think about resigning and as far as the no-confidence vote is concerned, I believe in fighting till the end.” On the point of several members of his party having defected to the opposition camp ahead of the no-trust vote, Khan said that even if the opposition’s no-trust move failed, “We cannot run the government with such people (defectors).” On being asked whether he was prepared to go for early elections, he replied, “If we win (in) this (no-confidence) vote, it is a very good idea to go for early elections.” Earlier, the PM had claimed that there was a threat to his life, claiming that those conspiring to topple his government were “scared knowing that even if he is ousted, the public will continue to support him”.
