Warriors Explore Trade Options for Kristaps Porziņģis Amid Health Issues
The Golden State Warriors are looking into potential trades for Kristaps Porziņģis, who is facing health challenges amid uncertainty about his basketball future.

The Golden State Warriors are actively exploring trade options involving center Kristaps Porziņģis, who is currently sidelined due to health issues. His absence has raised questions about his future in professional basketball.
Porziņģis, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract with a player option for the second season, has been dealing with an autoimmune disorder known as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). Sources indicate that he is contemplating his future in the sport as he grapples with ongoing health issues. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, “Golden State has started exploring trade routes for Kristaps Porziņģis,” reflecting the team’s concern over his ability to contribute moving forward.
The Warriors have reportedly reached out to other teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks, regarding a potential trade. However, the Bucks have shown little interest in acquiring the veteran center. The dynamics of Porziņģis’ contract could complicate matters; he is effectively on an expiring contract where only a portion of his 2027-28 salary is guaranteed.
In light of his uncertain status, the Warriors face challenges in finding a suitable trade partner. ESPN’s Brett Siegel remarked that a deal is unlikely to be finalized soon, noting that Porziņģis himself is unclear about what the future holds for him. The team has indicated it will not comment on trade speculation or Porziņģis’ health.
There are additional factors at play. With several players injured, the Warriors are starting the season with significant financial commitments sidelined, prompting the organization to explore trades to salvage the season. Every player is potentially tradable, but the specifics of Porziņģis’ situation present unique hurdles.
Trade options may include flexibility for teams looking to clear cap space or add a veteran presence. The Warriors have draft assets that could enhance a trade package. As they navigate through this complicated scenario, the franchise’s management will weigh the potential benefits against the risks associated with moving a player who may not have a clear future in the league.
In his time with the Warriors, Porziņģis averaged 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds; however, his three-point shooting percentage raised concerns. Compounding the problem is that team sources described him as detached and uninterested in participating in on-court activities. As the season continues, the Warriors will need to make strategic decisions regarding their roster amidst Porziņģis’ uncertain status.
