Hyderabad, May 17: A violent clash broke out between two groups in Asif Nagar, Hyderabad, over suspicions of cattle smuggling. The confrontation escalated into stone-pelting, resulting in injuries to at least two police officers and several bystanders. Numerous vehicles were also damaged during the incident. The situation is currently under control.
According to reports, one group suspected that a truck was illegally transporting cows. The unrest began when the truck was stopped in Gudimalkapur, where cow protectors claimed it was carrying livestock, while the driver insisted he was transporting plywood. As the group that halted the truck attacked the driver, a large number of locals gathered to protest.
After a heated argument, the two factions clashed. Police arrived promptly and resorted to baton charges to disperse the fighting groups. However, during the chaos, at least two police officers sustained injuries, along with some pedestrians.
Meanwhile, local MLA Majid Hussain of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) visited the area. He sharply criticized the cow protectors, accusing them of falsely claiming that the truck carried cows and inciting unnecessary unrest. Hussain even boarded the truck with his supporters and traveled a short distance in it.
He also raised concerns about the police’s handling of the situation, alleging their failure to maintain order. Hussain demanded strict action against those who attacked the truck.
He accused cow protectors of attempting to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the city through such attacks. He urged the police to take firm measures against troublemakers to prevent any law-and-order issues.
To maintain peace, police have deployed additional forces in the area. The Asif Nagar police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
