Violence Erupts in Bihar After Alleged Custodial Death; CCTV Footage Reveals Suicide

Katihar, April 5: Violence erupted in the Katihar district of Bihar after the death of an accused, Rajesh Yadav, at the Falka police station. Angry locals attacked police officers, even seizing a police rifle in the chaos.

The unrest began when rumors spread that Rajesh Kumar had died in police custody. This led to a gathering of people at the police station, where they confronted the officers. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in assaults on police personnel. During the turmoil, rioters managed to snatch a 7.62 SLR rifle from the police.

As tensions rose, police attempted to intervene, but rioters responded with stone-pelting, vandalism, and arson. Officers were caught off guard by the sudden attack, forcing many to flee for their safety.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, senior police officials arrived with a significant force to disperse the rioters. They also recorded videos of the incident to help identify those involved.

The situation took a dramatic turn when police reviewed CCTV footage from inside the station. The video clearly showed that Rakesh Yadav was alone in his cell and had committed suicide by hanging himself with a bedsheet. This revelation confirmed that his death was not due to police brutality but rather a suicide.

Police officials stated that the emergence of the CCTV footage raises questions about whether such violent actions were justified based solely on rumors or if there was a deeper conspiracy at play.

An investigation team is being formed to probe the violence, including how the rumors spread. Authorities are working to identify and locate those involved in the riots to uncover the full story behind this incident.
