Mumbai, April 6: Tensions escalated in Santosh Nagar Market under the Dindoshi police station on Sunday night as two groups clashed. Residents of Malad were startled by sudden chaos as a heated argument turned violent.
The situation deteriorated to the point where Mumbai police had to resort to a lathi charge, resulting in two individuals sustaining serious injuries. The injured were promptly admitted to a trauma care hospital. The Dindoshi police have arrested five individuals and taken three minors into custody. A case of inciting a riot has been registered, and the accused will be presented in court today.
According to the Dindoshi police, the altercation began in the evening between the two groups. Upon receiving reports, police arrived at the scene to control the crowd. However, when the crowd refused to disperse, the police were compelled to use minimal force. The police stated that the situation is now under control, and additional personnel have been deployed throughout the area.
Former BJP councilor Vinod Mishra alleged that certain anti-social elements attacked members of the Bajrang Dal. Unfortunately, as the injured were being transported to the hospital, police reportedly charged at them. A minor was also allegedly beaten by the police, resulting in serious injuries.
In the aftermath, DCP Mahesh Chimte spoke with a news agency, stating, “We will take strict legal action against anyone found guilty in this incident. No offender will escape justice. The injured person will identify all involved, and we will take further action based on that information. Maintaining law and order is our priority. We are investigating this matter with complete fairness and seriousness, and strict measures will be taken against the culprits.”
