Villarreal Player Credits Pedri for Barcelonas Victory Over Villarreal

Barcelona, March 2: Barcelona achieved a remarkable 4-1 victory against Villarreal in their La Liga match at the Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday. While Lamine Yamal stole the spotlight with his first career hat-trick, one Villarreal player believes he was not the key factor in Barcelona’s success.

Villarreal was very much in the game, trailing 2-1 after Pape Gueye scored just four minutes into the second half, giving them a surge of momentum. However, midfielder Santi Comesana stated that the introduction of Pedri by coach Hansi Flick shifted the dynamics of the match. He shared his thoughts with the media after the game (via MD).

“Pedri calmed everything down; he took the ball away from us. With Pedri, the match stopped being back and forth. Barça enjoyed much longer possessions and didn’t have to chase the ball. He delivered the pass for the third goal that broke through three defensive lines, and at that moment, we lost our conviction,” Comesana explained.

Comesana also acknowledged Lamine Yamal’s impressive performance, noting that left-back Sergi Cardona struggled throughout the match due to Yamal’s skill.

“He consistently plays well against us. Sergi (Cardona) had some help from Moleiro, but stopping players like him is very challenging. The second goal, in my opinion, is a fantastic goal. Moreover, he finished the other two chances very well. He kept putting pressure on us,” Comesana added.

While Lamine Yamal may be Barcelona’s top attacking threat, many consider Pedri to be their most crucial player. His return after a month-long injury layoff is excellent news for the Catalans, who will need his skills to overcome Atletico Madrid’s four-goal lead in their Copa del Rey semi-final tie, which resumes on Tuesday.
