Chennai, April 8: Actor-turned-politician Vijay will campaign today in Tirunelveli for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He is set to address a large public rally in KTC Nagar.
This rally is organized in support of the candidates from the TVK party, who are contesting in the Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts. The event has received police approval, but with strict conditions focused on crowd control and security measures.
Party coordinator Sengottaiyan stated that all guidelines will be strictly followed. However, he raised concerns about why such stringent conditions are only being applied to TVK events.
After the rally, Vijay will conduct a roadshow through Thalayuthu, Thachanallur, Washermanpet, Samadhanapuram, and the Court Complex area before returning to KTC Nagar.
The party has also sought permission for campaigning in Pudukkottai, Tenkasi, Mayiladuthurai, and Ranipet districts, with online applications already submitted.
This election campaign comes amid various developments related to nominations associated with Vijay and his party’s candidates across the state.
Vijay is contesting from two seats: Perambur and Tiruchi East. His nomination for Tiruchi East was accepted without issues. However, in Perambur, PMK candidate Thailagabama raised objections, alleging non-payment of property tax under Vijay’s name.
The returning officer temporarily halted the nomination, creating a tense situation, but it was later approved after clarifications from TVK representatives.
In Villivakkam, TVK official Adhav Arjun’s nomination was also temporarily halted due to incomplete information regarding companies registered under his wife’s name, which was later resolved with additional details.
A significant controversy arose in Edappadi, where AIADMK leader Palaniswami is contesting. TVK candidate Arun Kumar’s nomination was rejected, leading to political turmoil when reports surfaced about his disappearance. His wife Nithya, who replaced him, also faced a rejection of her nomination.
In contrast, in Chidambaram, candidates Pari and his father Neduchchezhiyan had their nominations accepted without any objections, unlike the troubles faced in other locations.
