
New Delhi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed the Mahaprav Kshamapana Ceremony-2026 on Sunday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event was organized by the Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Committee and the Jain Mahasabha Delhi. He described the occasion as a celebration of universal values such as forgiveness, friendship, non-violence, and inner purity.
Radhakrishnan emphasized the profound way the Jain tradition has incorporated forgiveness into spiritual discipline, noting its relevance for India and humanity today. He stated that Kshamapana is not merely a ritual but an opportunity for transformation within the human heart.
Highlighting the deep historical ties between Tamil Nadu and Jainism, Radhakrishnan remarked on the significant contributions of Jainism to Tamil literature and culture. He recalled the influence of Jain scholars and monks in classical Tamil literature and pointed out the presence of ancient Jain temples and educational centers throughout Tamil Nadu.
The Vice President underscored the universal message of Jain philosophy, which advocates friendship towards all living beings and echoes India’s civilizational ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.” He noted that in a world marked by conflict and violence, the teachings of Lord Mahavir pave the way for peace, dialogue, coexistence, and compassion.
Radhakrishnan articulated that non-violence extends beyond the absence of physical violence; it encompasses a lack of violence in thought, word, and deed. He reminded the audience that true strength lies in overcoming anger, intolerance, and vengeance, as shown by Lord Mahavir.
Regarding forgiveness, he clarified that it does not mean accepting injustice or compromising on truth. Instead, he advocated for choosing reform over revenge, dialogue over hatred, and reconciliation over hostility. He suggested that the spirit of Pratikraman can assist individuals and families in acknowledging mistakes and resolving conflicts.
In his vision for a developed India, Radhakrishnan asserted that progress should encompass not just economic prosperity, modern infrastructure, and technological advancement, but also trust among citizens, values within families, character among youth, and compassion within society. He urged the nurturing of humility, compassion, service, unity, and responsibility as foundational values in building a developed India.
During the event, he also presented the Jain Samaj Ratna Award to K.C. Jain. Several dignitaries, including Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, were present at the ceremony.
