
New Delhi, February 27: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan paid homage to social reformer and Bharat Ratna awardee Nanaji Deshmukh on his death anniversary at the Vice President’s residence on Friday.
In a post on the social media platform X, Radhakrishnan stated, “As a social reformer and politician, Nanaji Deshmukh firmly believed in the philosophy of Antyodaya. He dedicated his life to the welfare of the last person in society. He played a crucial role in the ‘Total Revolution’ movement led by Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan during the Emergency and tirelessly worked to strengthen democratic values.”
He added that Deshmukh would always be fondly remembered for his commitment to rural development, social change, and nation-building throughout his life.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also took to X to express his respect, writing, “On the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Nanaji Deshmukh, a founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Sangh, I pay my heartfelt tributes. The ‘Rashtra Rishi’ dedicated his entire life to uplifting rural India, promoting education, and building a self-reliant society. For him, social service was not just a thought but a practice. His dedicated life continues to inspire us all on the path of nation-building.”
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy remembered the visionary reformer on X, stating, “Remembering the far-sighted social reformer and Bharat Ratna Nanaji Deshmukh on his death anniversary. A dedicated worker of the RSS, he devoted his life to advancing rural development, education, and the vision of self-reliant villages, truly reflecting the spirit of Antyodaya. His life and work continue to inspire us all.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid her respects on X, saying, “On the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna and ‘Rashtra Rishi’ revered Nanaji Deshmukh, I offer my humble tribute. His entire life is an indelible inspiration for selfless service and uplifting the last person in society. He transformed politics from a means of power to a path of public welfare and integrity.”
She further noted that while at the pinnacle of active politics, he dedicated his life to the self-reliance of rural India. His visionary perspective of ‘Gramodaya se Rashtroday’ has shown the country a new direction towards self-reliance. His unparalleled dedication to simplicity and service will continue to inspire us in our public service endeavors.
