Kolkata, May 21: In a significant move, the West Bengal government has made it mandatory for all government, aided, and recognized madrasas to sing ‘Vande Mataram’ during prayer assemblies before classes commence. This announcement was confirmed by the state’s Minister for Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education, Khudiram Tudu.
Tudu stated that similar to other government schools in the state, recognized madrasas will now also require the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’. He emphasized, “There are many government schools in West Bengal where classes are conducted in the Santali language. If ‘Vande Mataram’ is mandatory in those schools, why shouldn’t it be in recognized madrasas?”
In this regard, the West Bengal Madrasa Education Directorate has issued an official order mandating the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ in all aided madrasas across the state. The order, released by the Madrasa Education Director, annuls all previous directives and practices, stating that ‘Vande Mataram’ is now compulsory during prayer assemblies in all government model madrasas (English medium), recognized aided madrasas, approved MSKs, approved SSKs, and recognized non-aided madrasas before classes begin.
Earlier, on May 13, the West Bengal Education Department had also issued a notification making ‘Vande Mataram’ mandatory in all government schools in the state. The new Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, shared this notification on his official social media account on May 14.
The notification, released by the Additional Chief Secretary, stated that the West Bengal government has made it compulsory to sing the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ during prayer assemblies before classes in all schools under the state’s school education department with immediate effect.
